Houston Texans Minicamp 2012: Veteran Receiver Mike Sims-Walker Tries Out For Team

Stay connected for news and updates

The Houston Texans' receiving combo of Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter are as solid a 1-2 combination as you could find in the league, but the team has not a single career reception at the receiver position on the entire roster after Johnson and Walter.

Hence veteran and current journeyman Mike Sims-Walker, who put up solid numbers for the Jacksonville Jaguars and spent 2011 with the Jags and St. Louis Rams while battling multiple injuries (quote courtesy of the Houston Chronicle:)

"He looked pretty good," Kubiak said. "Obviously, jumping out here for the first time in this heat that we’re having, it’s pretty tough. But I thought he did some good things. We’ll go back and take a look and watch all the periods and see how he did."

Sims-Walker was at his most effective in 2009 and '10, totaling 106 catches, 1,431 yards and 14 touchdowns. He, along with three other players - former Texans fullback Moran Norris, most recently on Detroit's roster, rookie defensive end Keith Browner of California and former Baltimore linebacker Prescott Burgess - will undergo a three-day evaluation before the staff decides if they'll be added to the training camp roster.
