Rice QB Taylor McHargue sustained a concussion on a play in which he fumbled, eventually leading to an Air Force touchdown.

Rice Owls quarterback Taylor McHargue sustained a concussion in the second quarter of the 2012 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl against the Air Force Falcons and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game.

McHargue took a hit from Falcons defender Steffon Batts at the Owls' 24-yard line with five and a half minutes remaining in the opening half, and fumbled on the play. He did not return for Rice's next offensive series, with backup quarterback Driphus Jackson entering the game as a replacement.

McHargue led the Owls to a scoring drive earlier in the game, capping it off with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Taylor to get Rice on the board. Prior to the injury, McHargue was 6-of-8 for 31 yards and a score through the air and accounted for 39 yards on 10 carries on the ground.

Jackson connected with Taylor for a 22-yard touchdown strike early in the third quarter to knot the game at 14 apiece. He has thrown for 102 yards and rushed for 28 since replacing McHargue.
