The Rice Owls were able to come back from a nine-point deficit and score the final 12 points of the game to defeat the Kansas Jayhawks 25-24. The Owls won the game on a Chris Boswell 45-yard field goal as time expired to pull off the upset.
The Owls defense held the Jayhawks offense in check after Kansas scored a touchdown just four minutes into the second half. For the game, they held Kanas quarterback Dayne Crist to only144 yards passing the ball, intercepting him off twice.
The Rice offense was led by their rushing attack that combined for 167 yards, but 94 of those came from Charles Ross who scored a touchdown while also averaging 6.7 yards a carry. Quarterback Taylor McHargue also had a solid game by completing 23-of-35 passes for 236 yards
