SB Nation's latest mock draft has the Texans taking Keenan Allen.

The Houston Texans have spent years searching for a viable No. 2 receiver to pair with Andre Johnson, to little avail. They may finally find that man in this year's NFL Draft.

Dan Kadar of Mocking The Draft released his latest mock draft on Monday. In it, he has the Texans selecting California WR Keenan Allen with the 27th overall pick:

Opposite Andre Johnson, the Texans have little talent. With Johnson soon turning 32, it's time to finally add a solid No. 2 receiver that can eventually replace him. Allen is a big, strong receiving target who specializes in getting yards after the catch.

Allen hasn't been able to work out for teams due to a nagging ankle injury, and it has hurt his draft stock to the point that people believe he could fall to the second round. Still, with Tavon Austin, Cordarrelle Patterson and DeAndre Hopkins all off the board in this mock, Houston goes with the next best option. Allen has tremendous upside if he can get healthy.

Houston will give wide receiver Andre Johnson some help on the outside in the first round, according to one NFL writer.

The Houston Texans were one of the AFC's best teams for much of 2012. Their powerful rushing attack set up the passing game, which was dominated by wide receiver Andre Johnson. Problem is, Johnson might be getting too much of an emphasis right now -- he caught 50 more passes and gained 882 more yards than Houston's second-leading receiver (tight end Owen Daniels) last season.

Because of this imbalance, Sports Illustrated's Don Banks, in his latest mock draft on Wednesday, sees the Texans selecting California Golden Bears early entrant wide receiver Keenan Allen with the 27th overall pick. Banks says that while other wideouts may be considered, Allen is the pick here:

Clemson's DeAndre Hopkins is another popular pick to the Texans, who clearly are targeting a No. 2 receiver to help lighten the receiving load that Andre Johnson has carried for years. For now, we're standing pat with Allen, who catches the ball with physicality, in the mold of Anquan Boldin. A reported failed drug test at the combine might hurt Allen with some teams, but it's not the deal-breaker it once was in the NFL.

SB Nation's Matthew Fairburn ranks Allen as the draft's second-best receiver prospect. Allen caught 61 passes for 737 yards and six touchdowns for the Golden Bears in 2012, following up a sophomore season in which he posted 1,343 receiving yards on 98 catches with six touchdowns.

Fairburn, on the other hand, has Houston going with Florida State Seminoles offensive tackle Menelik Watson with the No. 27 spot in his latest mock draft.

Houston needs some help up front and gets it in Watson.

In SB Nation's latest NFL mock draft, Matthew Fairburn is pegging Florida State Seminoles offensive tackle Menelik Watson to the Houston Texans.

Houston needs a right tackle after losing Eric Winston before the 2012 season, with the position being unsettled since then. Currently, Derek Newton is the starter penciled in to bookend Duane Brown, but it's hard to imagine a team many believe is ready for a Super Bowl run to be comfortable with that situation.

Watson is a mountain of a man at 6'5'' and 310 pounds, and can move with quickness. Should Watson go to the Texans, he fits what they like to do in terms of scheme. Watson's talents are tailor made for a zone blocking scheme as Fairburn points out, something that Houston has employed for years.

The Texans are a very strong team without many holes, so they could go with the best player available at this point should they feel comfortable with Newton.

Cal wide receiver Keenan Allen remains a popular pick for the Houston Texans in mock drafts around the Internet.

The Houston Texans have finally made the leap from pretty good to elite, and many expect they'll remain playoff contenders for some time. As such, they'll likely be picking near the end of the first round exclusively, so they'll need to really get a hold on maximizing value with late picks.

Houston holds the No. 27 pick in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, but they don't have a ton of holes. One significant need is at the wide receiver position, as the team would like to take some of the load off Andre Johnson's shoulders.

Don Banks of SI.com released his latest mock draft on Wednesday, and he has the Texans addressing that need in the first round by taking Cal wide receiver Keenan Allen:

Allen didn't run too well (in the 4.7s) at his Pro Day this week, but speed has never been his game. He has good hands and the ability to come down with the ball in traffic, and his recovery from a PCL knee re-injury is not yet complete. For what the Texans receiving game still lacks, Allen is the answer. With or without spiffy 40 times.

The latest mock draft from Matthew Fairburn of SB Nation has the Texans doing the same thing, selecting Allen at No. 27. It's been a popular pick thus far, and that's simply because the move makes sense. SB Nation's mock was a three-rounder, where the Texans also nabbed Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib in Round 2, Florida inside linebacker Jon Bostic in Round 3 and Cincinnati tight end Travis Kelce with their other pick in the third round.

Allen is one of the faster receivers coming out of the draft and has the ability to make plays and stretch the field. Johnson would benefit tremendously from a receiver on the other side who can make the defense respect him vertically.

Nassib would be a very intriguing pick in the second round. It's hard to imagine Nassib lasting until the 59th overall pick, but if he does the Texans would be remiss not to draft him. If Nassib goes here, Matt Schaub would have to be looking over his shoulder at all times.

Bostic in this scenario would be a long-term fix at middle linebacker, replacing Bradie James. Bostic proved he has the ability to stuff the run, something of premium importance in the middle.

Kelce provides a second tight end to Owen Daniels, something that has been missing since Joel Dreessen left for the Denver Broncos.

Louisville is the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, and they're heavy favorites in this game for good reason. They had little trouble winning the Midwest region, blowing out North Carolina A&T, Colorado State, Oregon and Duke. This is their second straight year in the national semifinals and third time under coach Rick Pitino.

Wichita State won't be intimidated, however, and this isn't the first time they've faced heavy odds. They knocked out Pittsburgh, Gonzaga, La Salle and Ohio State to reach the Final Four for the first time since 1965, and became the first Missouri Valley Conference team to make this far since Indiana State in 1979.

Houston's goal, according to recent mocks, appears to be simple: Get help for Andre Johnson in the form of another elite wide receiver.

The Houston Texans appear to have an obvious mission regarding how they want to use their 27th overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft, and that is to find a top-tier wide receiver to join Andre Johnson for the coming seasons. According to a few recent mock drafts, one choice stands above the others.

Former California Golden Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen will be Houston's pick, according to Wednesday's updated mock draft from Sports Illustrated's Don Banks.

Banks believes finding a wideout in the first round is rather critical for the Texans. Here's his tongue-in-cheek alternative, if they don't:

Otherwise, they might as well disband the franchise and not even field a team this season. It's that important.

In his junior season at Cal, Allen caught 61 passes for 737 yards and six touchdowns, following up a sophomore campaign in which he caught 98 balls for 1,343 yards and six touchdowns. The second-rated wideout in Matthew Fairburn's positional rankings for SB Nation, Allen is also projected to go to the Texans in SB Nation's latest mock done by Dan Kadar.

Last season, Johnson led the Texans in catches (112) and receiving yards (1,598). A run-first offense, Houston's leader in touchdown catches was tight end Owen Daniels, with six. Daniels was also the team's second-leading receiver with 62 receptions and 716 yards.
