"ARLINGTON, Texas — With the amateur draft less than two weeks away, scouting director Doug Laumann believes a deep, pitching-heavy draft will enable the White Sox to get some "pretty good players" despite not having a pick until No. 47. "I've eliminated 20 to 25 guys," said Laumann, who won't have a first-round pick because of the free-agent signing of Adam Dunn. "The claim that people are saying this is the best draft in 20 years, I don't have a great feel for. But at 47, I feel there are a lot of quality guys who will be there around the second, third and fourth rounds."

Love this old quote by AA on how he views the amateur draft: "An average draft is getting one above-average player," Anthopoulos said after taking over in October. "If we can go from one to two (per draft), while certainly there's an incremental cost, the value to our organization will be tenfold."

He hit .469/.500/1.094.

"'The last time the tournament was here there were some tremendous kids like Joe Mauer and Jeremy Bonderman,' said Zuk. 'There were probably more big name players in that tournament (2000), than there are this year, but it's pretty hard to say anybody has been better than Brett Lawrie in either tournament.'" Also of note is that Lawrie is indeed playing catcher for the Canadian Juniors team.
