Texas A&M vs. Alabama: Johnny Football will need sidekicks

Brett Davis-US PRESSWIRE

Texas A&M freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel will need plenty of help on the offensive side of the ball this week against a stingy Alabama defense.

Set to face the unanimous No. 1 team in college football on Saturday, the Texas A&M Aggies are expected to dish out a full dose of star freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel in search of a monumental upset.

The 6'1, 200-pound Manziel currently ranks second in the nation in total offense and remains among a short list of Heisman Trophy contenders. But as Randy Harvey of the Houston Chronicle points out, the youngster clearly won't be able to handle an NFL-ready Alabama defense all by himself this weekend.

Manziel tossed three interceptions and was held to a season-low 27 rushing yards by LSU back on Oct. 20, and could conceivably find even less room to operate in Week 11 with the Crimson Tide's front seven hounding him. With such minimal room for error against the nation's best team, there's no question that Manziel's supporting cast will need to put forth their best effort of the season this Saturday.

Aggies freshman receiver Mike Evans currently leads the team with 56 catches and 802 yards, but has only managed to use his 6'5 frame to haul in two touchdowns this year. Evans snagged 13 passes combined and was clearly not rattled in marquee losses against both Florida and LSU earlier in the season, and he could be the X-factor in the passing game on Saturday.
