Texas vs. Kansas score update: Texans lead after one quarter, 7-0

Erich Schlegel

The Texas Longhorns took an early lead against Kansas, picking up a touchdown on a 43-yard drive just four rushing plays long.

The Texas Longhorns lead the Kansas Jayhawks after one quarter in Kansas, 7-0, picking up a touchdown on a four-play, 43-yard drive.

It was a Johnathan Gray rush that made the opening drive. After the Longhorns started with great field position, the freshman broke off a 31-yard run to the Kansas 12 to set up three more rushes that put the ball in the end zone. Gray has 36 yards on two carries in the first quarter. Texas has kept it on the ground almost entirely, with David Ash throwing just just twice, connecting once with Jaxon Shipley for 12 yards.

Kansas managed to put together a 13-play, 43-yard drive, but the Texas defense managed a stop when Kansas went for it on fourth down just outside the red zone. Kansas' field-goal kicker Ron Doherty is just 5-of-10 for the year, leading to the Jayhawks' decision to go for it on fourth down.

Since the opening drive, Texas has consistently had good field position, but have been unable to capitalize.
