VIDEO: What Is Next For Texas?

The Texas Longhorns comeback attempt came up short against the Cincinnati Bearcats as they fell 65-59. The loss was not unexpected as Texas was the No. 11 seed and Cincinnati was a No. 6 seed, but the way Texas loss is what was concerning.

Dan Rubenstein and Bomani Jones go over the game and pondered what Texas needs to do get to the Sweet 16 which is something that they have not done in the past four NCAA Tournaments.

Texas Vs. Cincinnati Final Score: Bearcats Hold Off Longhorns, 65-59

Despite trailing by 14 points at halftime, the Texas Longhorns came all the way back in the second half against the Cincinnati Bearcats, tying the game at 52-52 with three minutes left to play.

Unfortunately for the Longhorns, they'd never take the lead.

J'Covan Brown turned the ball over, leading to an easy layup by Cincinnati's Yancy Gates, putting the Bearcats back up by two. Sheldon McClellan then missed a three point jumper, leading to a Cashmere Wright layup, extending Cincinnati's lead to four.

Cincinnati padded their lead to six following a missed three pointer by Brown, and at that point, the Bearcats never looked back, as Texas failed to even make it a one possession game in the last minute.

Brown led the Longhorns in scoring, with 19 points. He also added six assists and five rebounds.

Texas' poor first half doomed them, as Cincinnati opened the game on a 16-2 run. The Longhorns were held to just 17 points in the first half.

Gates led the Bearcats in scoring, going 7-of-12 from the field for 15 points. He also added 10 rebounds.

Texas Vs. Cincinnati Halftime Update: Bearcats Lead Longhorns, 31-17 At Halftime

The Texas Longhorns were held to a season low for points in one half and trail the Cincinnati Bearcats 31-17 at halftime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Texas never could find its rhythm and struggled even while the Bearcats did not have their strongest offensive half. Nonetheless, Cincinnati jumped out to a 20-6 lead early on the Longhorns, burying them into a huge deficit to start the game.

The Longhorns are shooting 17 percent from the field at halftime, while being led by their J'Covan Brown, their leading scorer all season, who has nine points. Clint Chapman has 8 rebounds for Texas.

The Bearcats are led by Yancy Gates who went into halftime with 8 points and 6 rebounds, on pace to record a double-double if he keeps up the pace in the second half.

Something is going to have change for the Horns, or they will be an early exit team, for sure.

President Obama's 2012 Bracket Predictions: Lamar Is Just A Casualty

No one is going to hear President Obama mention the Lamar Cardinals when he is filling out his 2012 NCAA bracket, because it is almost as if Lamar is not even in the tourney.

It's not a slight on Lamar, rather that if the Cardinals beat the Vermont Catamounts in the opening round, they would ultimately run into his pick to win the national championship - the North Carolina Tar Heels. President Obama even admitted to ESPN's Andy Katz that he is a "sucker for North Carolina."

President Obama's bracket is mostly chalk in the Midwest region, but he does have No. 11-seed NC State Wolfpack taking down the No. 3-seed Georgetown Hoyas in the second round. In the South region, Obama has has No. 3-seed Baylor taking out No. 2-seed Duke in the Elite Eight.

President Obama's Final Four picks are as follows:

No.1 Kentucky Wildcats vs. No. 2 Missouri Tigers

No.1 North Carolina Tar Heels vs. No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes

NCAA Tournament 2012: Lamar Could Make History In Second Round

The 2012 NCAA Tournament officially gets underway on Tuesday, when the first two games of the First Four round tip off. The initial round of the tournament pits the final at-large selections against one another to determine the final four teams into the Round of 64 and the tournament proper.

One of those teams involved in the First Four is the Houston area's very own Lamar Cardinals, who will face off against the Vermont Catamounts for their chance in the dance. David Coleman has a nice overview of the Catamounts up at SB Nation Houston, so you should go check that out.

Should Lamar pull off the win and advance to the second round of play on Friday, they will face off against the North Carolina Tar Heels. At that point, the Cardinals will have an opportunity to make history.

Mike Rutherford at SB Nation alerts us to some numbers that were crunched by Ken Pomeroy, who believes that this might be the year a No. 16 seed defeats a No. 1 seed -- something that has never happened before in the NCAA Tournament's history. Should Lamar advance, they will enter the tournament as the highest-ranked No. 16 seed in Tournament history.

Time will tell whether Lamar will be able to pull off the ultimate Cinderella story, but you can be certain Houston fans will be cheering them on either way.

VIDEO: 2012 NCAA Tournament East Region: Texas Is Not Predicted To Make Too Much Noise

The Texas Longhorns are not on too many lists as a possible sleeper team that could emerge from the East region of the NCAA Tournament, or at least not by our resident college basketball expert Nick Fasulo.

The Syracuse Orangemen headline the region, but Fasulo has some reservations about their defensive rebounding when going up against Kansas State in the Sweet 16. If the Orange met with the Vanderbilt Commodores in the Sweet 16, Fasulo could see Vandy shooting its way out of Syracuse's trademark zone defense.

"You saw what happened when Syracuse lost in the Big East tournament," Fasulo said. "If someone gets hot, it could be early quickly."

Syracuse lost to the Cincinnati Bearcats in that tournament, which is the Longhorns' first opponent. The Ohio State Buckeyes are the second seed in the East region, which Fasulo could see ending up in an Orangemen vs. Buckeyes showdown, possibly favoring Ohio State.

Check out the video here.

2012 NCAA Tournament Predictions: Can Lamar Be A Cinderella Team In All The Madness?

It's no accident that the Lamar Cardinals have rattled off five straight wins, all of them coming since first-year head coach Pat Knight ripped them during a post-game press conference following a regular season loss to Stephen F. Austin.

But Lamar isn't playing strictly off motivation, rather it's the talent that attracted Knight to the job in the first place that is putting in work. Knight said he took the job, which only plays $150,000 a year plus incentives, because he believed the squad could win right away.

Well, the Southland Conference tournament championship is wrapped up, so now it's time to see how far they can go in the NCAA Tournament. If they beat the Vermont Catamounts on Wednesday - which after seeing the Cardinals play four times this season, I'm pretty sure they will - Lamar will go head-to-head with the North Carolina Tar Heels.

That's probably where the Cardinals run will end, but the drama of seeing Mike James, the kid from the Pat Knight video who was interrupted and told he had "no clue" what it takes to win, shoot long three-pointers and Osas Ebomwonyi's defensive prowess matching up with Tyler Zeller, is going to be well worth the watch, even if we know how the story ends.

Check out SB Nation Houston for updates on the rest of Lamar's season. Read the SB Nation Bracket predictions here.

2012 NCAA Bracket: Lamar Lands In Midwest Region First Four, Could Face Top-Seed North Carolina

After a successful regular season, the Lamar Cardinals have landed a spot in the First Four in the Midwest region for this year's NCAA Tournament, as the selection committee announced on Sunday. The Cardinals are the only team from the Southland Conference to get a bid and earned the trip by winning their conference tournament.

The Midwest region should pose numerous challenges for a talented Lamar team. First off, the Cardinals will have to get past a solid Vermont team just to get a shot at playing No. 1 seed North Carolina in the second round.

If the Cardinals have some success early in the tournament, they could eventually face the likes of No. 8 seed Creighton, No. 2 Kansas or No. 3 Georgetown in later rounds.

This is the first NCAA appearance since 2000 for the Cardinals. If Lamar beats Vermont, it'll be the first tournament victory for the Cardinals since 1983, when Lamar beat Alabama 73-50. The last time Lamar won more than one game in the NCAA Tournament was in 1979, when made the only Sweet Sixteen appearance in school history under Billy Tubbs.

SECTIONAL POST 2012 NCAA Bracket: Texas Lands In East Region, Could Face Florida State

After a successful regular season, the Texas Longhorns have landed the 11th seed in the East region for this year's NCAA Tournament, as the selection committee announced on Sunday. One of just five teams from the Big 12 to get a bid, the Longhorns got an at-large invitation after failing to win the conference tournament.

The East region should pose numerous challenges for a talented Texas team. In the first round of the tournament, the Longhorns will be facing 6th-seeded Cincinnati, with the winner moving on to face No. 3 seeded Florida State in the second round should the Seminoles survive against St. Bonaventure.

If the Longhorns have some success early in the tournament, they could eventually face the likes of Ohio State, or Syracuse, the region's top-two seeds, in later rounds.

NCAA Bracket 2012: Texas To Play Cincinnati In First Game

After landing the No. 11 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, the Texas Longhorns will be playing the sixth-seeded Cincinnati Bearcats in the first round of the East Regional. The Longhorns received an at-large bid from the tournament's selection committee after turning in a 25-7 record during the regular season.

The Longhorns had an uneven season, but solidified their bid with a quarterfinal win over Iowa State in the Big 12 Tournament. Now, Texas gets to begin its 14th straight NCAA Tournament appearance by playing the Bearcats.

Cincinnati had one of the most tumultuous seasons in the country this year, as they were part of an ugly brawl at the end of their non-conference game against cross-town rival Xavier on Dec. 10.

But the ensuing suspensions and media scrutiny seemed to galvanize the Bearcats, who rebounded to a 12-6 record in Big East play and a run to the Big East Conference Championship that included a victory over Syracuse.

Brackets on the brain? Us too! Play Yahoo! Tourney Pick'em and be a part of the craziest month of college basketball. It is fun, easy, and free.

While Cincinnati doesn't have any big-time NBA prospects, they're very balanced offensively with five players -- 6'0 junior Cashmere Wright, 6'4 sophomore Sean Kilpatrick, 6'3 senior Dion Dixon, 6'9 senior Yancy Gates and 6'3 junior JaQuon Parker -- all averaging between 9 and 14 points.

The biggest concern for Texas will be handling Gates, a powerful 260-pound big man, in the low post.
