Aggies Also Set For Season Opener

Do you know why some of these early season basketball games don't matter too much?

The Texas A&M men's basketball team opens the 2010-2011 season tonight against Alcorn State. That's the same Alcorn State team that went 2-29 last season and needed a victory against Prairie View A&M in its last game to avoid a 30-loss season.

But, I guess it's a new season and Alcorn State could be gangbusters this year. Let's head over to their athletic website and check out the starter...oh wait, THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A WEBSITE!!! Not just the basketball team, but the entire athletics department doesn't have a website. Steve McNair's school does not have a website. (Fun fact: Do you know what town Alcorn State is in?)

That's the kind of opponent A&M will spar with. Now, I'll give Aggie coach Mark Turgeon credit. He's gotten A&M some premium matchups in the past. Washington will be coming to Aggieland later this year. He regularly plays in those Tipoff Classics against teams like LSU. But this? This is going to be a glorified scrimmage.

I would like to see David Loubeau, who is a legitimate low post presence. He's got some of the best low post moves of any player in the past 10 years to come through College Station. I guess you just have to focus on the little things early in the season.

(Trivia answer: The town is Alcorn State. Yep, they just named the town after the college. And they don't have an athletics website. Good for you, Alcorn State.)
