I really don't know what to say anymore.
I am almost fully qualified to run this site, supporting Houston sports to the extreme except for one thing: when it comes to baseball, my family roots leaned me towards being a New York Mets fan. This feeling that the Texans have about them right now, it's become Mets-ian. A decent plan falling apart due to a lack of attention to details, an aura of complacency, the lack of hurry to fix problems, the wasting of peak years from star players due to the inability to find the rest of the supporting cast. And, oh yeah, the heartbreaking losses and complete lack of surprise and paranoia on the fanbase. They've become so conditioned to this that they're just numb at this point.
The Mets rode that train years too long before they finally addressed the problems. Here's to hoping that Bob McNair is smarter than that. I'm not talking about just the head coach, I'm talking about the entire organization. Head to toe, it needs a rebuild. Nobody's job should be safe. Do what you can as quick as you can, whether it's in-season or during the offseason. Fix the culture. Before we waste one more snap of Mario Williams, Andre Johnson, and Arian Foster's careers on a defense that is on pace to be the worst in NFL history and an offensive coaching staff that can't figure out what it has. Cut off the nose.
If you can't be bothered to do that, and I'm guessing you won't, then join me behind the cut for TV watching suggestions to get your mind off the fact that you own a franchise that is embarrassing the city it calls home.
Country club atmosphere
-Denver Broncos @ San Diego Chargers -- ESPN, 7:30 PM -- Wonder if Seyi Ajirotutu is going to find the going quite so easy when he actually has to beat someone with skill instead of someone playing in a completely stupid scheme.
-Phoenix Suns @ Houston Rockets - Fox Sports Houston, 7:30 PM -- The perfect game to take terrible defense into. Expect the scoreboard to explode from overuse.
Culture of complacency
-EPL: Sunderland vs. Everton - ESPN3, 1:55 PM -- I was always a sucker for the name "Steed Malbranque." Should definitely be the name of a superhero.
-Orlando Magic @ San Antonio Spurs -- NBATV, 7:30 PM -- If you're tired of watching the Rockets, there is better basketball available.
-College Basketball: Kentucky vs. Oklahoma -- ESPN2, ~4 PM -- John Calipari will try really hard not to commit any recruiting violations while being shown on television in Maui. Ironically, Kelvin Sampson will be his water boy tonight.
Lack of accountability
- College Basketball: Kansas State vs. Gonzaga -- ESPN2, ~9PM -- Enjoy these early season Gonzaga games, because you won't get to see them on TV again until March. Also, remember not to stare directly at Frank Martin.
