Katy Dominates Anticipated Matchup

New, 2 comments

Remember when we talked about how Katy and Cinco Ranch had the chance to meet up in the last game of the season, both with undefeated records with the District 19-5A title on the line.

So, what happened in this heavily hyped matchup?

↵

Katy kicked the ever-lovin' crap out of Cinco Ranch. Seriously, it was a 56-3 beatdown of epic proportions. Katy scored 42 points by halftime and 28 in the second quarter alone. The Tigers had over 500 yards of total offense and over 400 rushing yards. The Katy defense gave up just 206 yards.

And they're not just doing it against a bunch of stiffs, either. Cinco Ranch was up to No. 5 in the Associated Press rankings heading into the game. And yet...

Running back Donovan Young scored Katy's first two touchdowns and finished with 166 yards on 22 carries. That pushed him over 1,600 yards this season, but it was the second-leading rusher on the team that had the biggest impact. Adam Taylor had 209 yards on just 15 carries, scoring on a 64-yard run in the second quarter and a 35-yard run minutes later. That pushed him over 1,000 yards for the season.

Hats off to Katy, who now faces Bellaire this weekend in the bi-district round of the Class 5A, Division I playoffs. Cinco Ranch will get a chance to lick its wounds against Lamar.
