Astros Agree To Bonus With Foltynewicz, May Sign Next Week

Brian McTaggart of MLB.com is reporting that the Astros have reached an agreement with first-round pick Mike Foltynewicz out of Minooka HS in Illinois. His signing bonus is to be $1.3 million, and he is expected to sign very soon, perhaps next week.

Foltynewicz, the hard-throwing right-handed pitcher the Astros selected with the 19th overall pick on Monday in the First-Year Player Draft — the club’s second pick overall — could be in Houston next week to sign the contract and begin his professional career.

Foltynewicz was taken eleven picks after Delino DeShields Jr, the Astros’ first selection. Expect DeShields Jr to be slightly more difficult to sign than Folty.
