Houston native Brittney Griner has been nominated for an ESPY award, specifically the "Best Breakthrough Athlete" award. Per BaylorBears.com:
↵↵↵Baylor women's basketball player Brittney Griner has been nominated for an ESPY in the category of Best Breakthrough Athlete. Also nominated for the award are the Tennessee Titans' Chris Johnson, Stephen Strasburg of the Washington Nationals and Kentucky basketball player John Wall.
↵
Griner should be pretty stoked about this. It's a great honor to be nominated for an ESPY award. She should celebrate her achievement. But what is her achievement, exactly? That she happened to be 6-foot-8?
↵Of all the awards that Griner could be nominated for -- Best Female Athlete, etc. -- she has instead been pegged as, what, a pleasant surprise? Please raise your hand if you didn't see Griner becoming a machine in college the minute you saw her first dunk. Or her second or third or bajillionth.
↵Dude, she was probably the biggest guarantee since Snoop. Word to your mother.
