According to a report from the Roanoke Times, Astros third round pick Austin Wates has agreed in principle with the ballclub.
Virginia Tech coach Pete Hughes said that All-ACC outfielder Austin Wates has agreed in principle with Houston, which selected him in the third round but the Astros have not made an announcement.
Wates hit .382 with 18 stolen bases and a .491 on-base percentage during his junior season in Blacksburg. He projects as a right fielder at the next level, though he could have a shot at playing center field as well. He becomes the latest Astros draftee to sign in what has turned out to be a very successful draft, signing-wise.
