Michael Bourn's Last Blast: The Streak Is Broken

There's comedy. There's high comedy, and then there's talking about all the things that happened in between Michael Bourn's last two home runs. I'll let R.J. Anderson hit the high points:

Not only has Stephen Strasburg signed since the night of July 11, but he’s also made big league five starts with 48 strikeouts.

Since that night the Yankees have won 99 games (losing 52) which results in a win rate of roughly 66%, or 107 over a regular season. The Orioles, meanwhile, have won only 49 games (losing 102), which results in a win rate of 32.5%, or 53 wins over a full season.

Albert Pujols hit 31 homers and Prince Fielder hit 39.

He goes on to mention that seven of the nine Pittsburgh starters have changed and that Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay also switched teams. It's been a pretty long drought. It's been so long, the Astros were only a game under .500. It's been so long that Carlos Lee was hitting over .300. It's been so long that Roy Oswalt only had five wins...wait, scratch that...

Bourn has never been a power hitter and probably never will be. With his speed, he's too valuable to hit the ball in the air enough to put up gawdy home run totals. But, if you doubt his effectiveness, look no further than another Astros center fielder from the past, Kenny Lofton. Dude only had 130 home runs in 17 seasons, including eight with five or fewer. So, yeah, it's a big deal that Bourn hasn't hit home runs in a while. But, that doesn't mean he's not one of the most valuable parts to this team.
