With the first of two first-round picks in the 2010 MLB First Year Player Draft, the Astros have selected second baseman Delino DeShields Jr. of Woodward Academy in Georgia. DeShields set himself apart from many prospects by his willingness and readiness to sign with a big league club immediately.
Though DeShields may be a slight reach for Houston, it’s a testament to the club for sticking with the guy that they wanted, and financially, DeShields makes the most sense.
