Andre Johnson Contract Saga: "Opener A Deadline"

New, 3 comments

ESPN AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky, continuing his monopoly on my keyboard for today, reports that the Texans will not be negotiating with Andre Johnson past the end of training camp.

"Our policy's been that we'll look at deals and we'll try to get things done during the offseason," [Texans general manager Rick Smith] said. "But once the season starts, our entire focus as an organization goes to football and playing games.

Not terribly surprising news, with how the Texans like to keep things on the down low, but the good news is that one way or another, this will just wind up as offseason drama.  Johnson clearly deserves a raise, but he may be stuck for the time being given the length and recentness of his deal.
