Cougars' Signee Wellbrock Named Player of Year

Another accolade rolled in recently for U of H signee Chase Wellbrock. The right-hander was recently named the Class 4A Player of the Year by Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association after he led his Brenham team to a state title.

Wellbrock had an ERA of 1.90 and a record of 18-0, winning two of those games at the state tournament.

As I said, it's puzzling that Wellbrock didn't get drafted last month, but scouts may have viewed his commitment to the Cougars as too much to break. At the very least, Wellbrock looks to give U of H another imposing force for its rotation.
