The mothership, concluding an outstanding series of opening day previews, looked at the special teams on Friday. It's solid work, some good quotes from Kubiak about the kicking competition. But then the bombshell drops at the end of the piece, on a quote about Trindon Holliday:
↵↵↵"Hopefully, we'll get to a point where teams don't kick to him. That means he's doing real good. The kid obviously has speed, and for his stature, he has toughness. Big guys won't be able to catch him, so I'm not worried about him lasting. He's not going to take many big hits. We'll design some returns that meet his abilities. I think our guys will be excited to block for him and get him a crease, and if he gets a crease then he has a chance to be very, very explosive. He's as fast as the fastest in the league."

- Special teams coordinator Joe Marciano
Now, I'm not a mind reader, nor do I play one on the internet. But if I adjust my speculation hat a little, this sure reads like Holliday's spot on the roster is assured, doesn't it? Being hopeful that teams will get to the point where they won't kick to him? That sounds like the talk of someone who has already assured a spot. They're designing plays for him? That sounds like someone who is going to be on the roster. Compliments on both his speed and a rationale about how it lets him survive the brutality of the league?
↵Obviously the Texans still have to make it through camp, but it sounds like at the moment, Holliday has a spot waiting for him when the season starts.
