With Dan Haren now a member of the Angels, only one “premium” starter is left on the market. However, dealing that ace may be harder than previously thought.
Cardinals GM John Mozeliak certainly sounded as if he was prepping his fan base for the let down, saying:
“We’re continuing to explore a number of things, it doesn’t look great right now,”
The Astros may have to shuffle their chips, or they may be left with an unhappy ace amidst a historically bad season.
The Dodgers have balked at the request for both James Loney and top prospects, and the Phillies are unwilling to part with Jonathan Singleton. With the asking price being too steep for the Cardinals, one has to wonder if the Yankees will jump in after the loss of Haren.
