According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees are on the verge of acquiring Lance Berkman. Additionally, Sherman is reporting that Berkman is willing to waive his NTC to play in New York. Sherman recently tweeted:
Hearing Berkman deal from #Astros to #Yankees is on verge of completion
Berkman has a complete no-trade clause, but hear that would not be problem if it is #Yankees
Berkman also appears to be a rental player until free agency begins this offseason. The first baseman has expressed his opinion, as such a request is prerequisite to accepting any trade.
"One of the prerequisites might be that they not pick my option up," Berkman said. "I don't be stuck someplace. This is my home. I'll always be a Houston Astro."
This trade is far from official, and no word has been reported on who the Astros would be receiving.
