The Week That Brings Nothing To The Table Presents: What's On Television, Sunday, August 1

Oh, week of August 1st. Unlike your predecessor (StarCraft2, amirite?!?!?!?), you bring very little (if anything) to the table. Music-wise? Sure, you give us Arcade Fire's return to form, the latest from seminal P.A.T. poet Bun B., and of course the latest from chillwave chilloneer Wavves. But like, hasn't the internet all but nullified the fun that midnight on Tuesday's once was? Sure those are likely must buy (support the artists and what not), but it's not as though anyone truly coveting them hasn't already heard them.

We move on to video juegos. "Madden 11"? Nope, still a week away. "Metrod: Other M"? Three weeks away, you say? Well at least there's a new Castlevania, right? But it's an X-Box Live Arcade release? Check please. Another 7 days of the aforementioned real time strategy game and "NCAA Football 11" to push the ladies (and fine gentelmen, eh lady gamers of the interwebs?) in our lives to the point of leaving us.

So what about cinema? There has to be some kind of at least palpable comedy, or some 3-star permissible drama to get us through what's playing out to be the dullest week of the calendar year. "The Other Guys"? Eh. Funny, maybe. Seems like Will Ferrell's been more miss than hit of late, but I guess it's something. Strongly suspect I'll pocket my $12 until "The Expendables" and "Scott PIlgrim vs. The World" cure my ADD a week from now. But at least "Kick-Ass" comes out on DVD/Blu-Ray right? Oh right. If you're anything like me, Netflix and/or Red Box is your portal du jour for home theater viewings and if (see: when) the studios have their way, it'll be 30+ days before it's readily available. Ugh.

At least there's sports, right? Surely there's another trade deadline or draft or something to get us through this entertainment dry spell? What, you're telling me the NFL's Pro Football Hall of Fame game isn't until next Sunday? Seriously? /Insert Charlie Brown noise.
