John Clayton Has A Novel Concept

In a move yanked straight from the pages of Jason Cole, ESPN's John Clayton decided to rank every quarterback in the NFL. I come bearing good news Texans fans, because he decided that Matt Schaub was an elite quarterback. Unfortunately, his elite quarterbacks list is FOURTEEN players long and Schaub is dead last on it.

What could drive such a silly ranking, I wonder?

14. Matt Schaub, Houston Texans

Analysis: Schaub finally moved into the elite group by staying healthy and throwing for a league-high 4,770 yards in 2009. (By the way, that was 270 yards more than Peyton Manning had last season.) The next step for Schaub and the Texans? Win in the AFC South and make the playoffs for the first time.

Hmm, well this sentence gives us sort of a clue. Lets see what the quarterbacks above Schaub have in common. It was pretty glaringly obvious, wasn't it? Yes, Eli Manning, Joe Flacco, Carson Palmer, Donovan McNabb, and Matt Ryan are all above Schaub because they have been to the playoffs and Schaub hasn't.

Judging quarterbacks by their win-loss records and playoff success, I see. (Obligatory Trent Dilfer reference.) Being an NFL Expert sure can be easy if you let it be. Just ignore context if it makes life difficult.
