You Just Thought It Was Bad Before: The New Texans DVOA Projection

New, 2 comments

You thought the Texans had it rough in the original DVOA rankings? 5.6 wins, sounded harsh? How about you try on 4.8 for size?

I'm curious as to what made up those 0.8 wins lost. Ben Tate is probably culprit number one, but with Arian Foster looking good in the preseason (which is obviously not factored into FO's projections), it doesn't seem like much of a problem for the Texans at this point. The offense is now projected to be one of the bottom eight in the league, worse than teams like Tampa and Kansas City. As Steph Stradley said

The Texans ranked 27th. Offense ranked 24th-worse than '06 Carr/Dayne. Uh no.

What could make that up? My uninformed guesstimation is that it's looking at the offensive line stability, seeing that Kasey Studdard is out and Wade Smith is in, and amplifying Schaub's injury risk somehow. Either way, I'm at a real loss to explain that projection with the skill players the Texans have. We'll have to see if we can get the dialogue going at FO about it.
