Astros slugger Jeff Bagwell, who was eligible for the Hall Of Fame for the first time this year, was dogged by unalleged rumors of steroid use and garnered just 41.7% of the vote. Astros fans can take heart in the fact that every member who has received 35% or more of the vote was eventually elected or could still possibly be elected, sans Steve Garvey.
Next year's Hall Of Fame class is not very prestigious, so Bagwell will have a chance to earn some more votes now that Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven have successfully been elected. But the Class of 2013 will be incredibly deep: Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza, Craig Biggio and Sammy Sosa, among others, headline that class.
