Clint Barmes A Hot Commodity?

Yeah, it's been a rash of question titles in these posts, but this FanGraphs article raised exactly that. Are teams focused on Clint Barmes more than we expected?

No, I don't think so. In fact, this is playing out exactly how I imagined it might. With Barmes just a Type B free agent, whoever signs him won't have to give up a draft pick. They'll also be able to get a player on a relatively short deal who has a skill set that may be better suited to team success than the big names.

↵

Certainly, Barmes will play better defense than the Jimmy Rollins and Yuni Betancourt's of the world. He won't hit and may struggle if he goes to an American League team. But, he's got to be an attractive option for some teams out there.

In fact, I like @native_astro's suggestion that the team which makes the most sense for Barmes is the San Francisco Giants. He's a veteran, so Brian Sabean will approve. He's a defense-first guy, which will help the overall team defense of the Giants, in turn helping out that pitching staff.

The only question is how long he'll sign for. If Barmes really is drawing this much interest, expect him to get a three or four-year deal. Which is great considering Barmes was traded for spare parts last offseason.
