Am I Alone As A Dejected Houston Sports Fan?

What's wrong with me?

↵

If you told me a year ago that the Texans would be cruising in on a playoff bid, that the Astros finally had a new owner and had cleaned house in the front office and that the Rockets were actually going to play games in 2011 (maybe), I should have been really happy.

The key words there are "should have." Instead, circumstances mean I'm more dejected than excited, more downtrodden than upbeat. In short, it's just like any other year.

Maybe this is just me. Maybe you other fans out there aren't as defeatist as I am at this point. The consecutive injuries to Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart coupled with the move to the American League just took it out of me. And, I didn't even mention the talk of a rebuilding project with the local basketball team.

Hope is a fickle thing for a sports fan. It waxes and wanes and most fans keep a sense of it even after some of the most crushing losses pile up. I just need to tap into that feeling again, because right now, the silver lining is getting harder and harder to find.
