Despite being named as the new head coach at Fresno State, Texas A&M defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter will stay with the team and serve as the interim coach during the 2011 Meineke Car Care Bowl against Northwestern:
CFTalk CollegeFootballTalkDeRuyter will coach A&M in the bowl game, Fresno State said in a release.
DeRuyter has been serving as the interim coach ever since the unceremonious firing of Mike Sherman shortly after the Aggies devastating 27-25 loss in College Station to their arch-rival Texas.
While Houston's Kevin Sumlin will take over next season when Texas A&M enters the SEC, like Urban Meyer at Ohio State, he will spend the bowl period firming up the school's 2012 recruiting class and assembling his own coaching staff.
Even amidst all the coaching turnover, the bowl game is still very important to the Aggies highly-decorated senior class, as a win would give the team a winning season while also being their first post-season victory since the 2001 Gallery Furniture Bowl.
