Sam Houston State advanced to their first-ever NCAA FCS championship game in school history with a 31-28 win over Montana on Friday, setting up a date with either Georgia Southern or North Dakota State at PIzza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas January 7.
By virtue of an undefeated season (SHS is now 14-0) and the overall number one seed in the FCS Playoff bracket, the Bearkats haven't left their campus in Hunstville, and will now travel a mere three hours north to Frisco. The distance of roughly 190 miles should guarantee Sam Houston a homefield advantage against either the Eagles (Statesboro, Georgia is a 1,012 mile drive to Frisco, just northeast of Dallas) or Bison (1,034 miles directly north in Fargo, North Dakota).
Tickets for the title game at Pizza Hut Park are already on sale at SHS's official site GoBearkats.com, and with a day's jump on sales and a short commute, the 20,000 seat facility (used primarily as the home of MLS franchise FC Dallas) could be almost entirely orange on January 7.
