Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Zamal Nixon scored 17 points, leading five players in double figures, as the Houston Cougars defeated the Tulane Green Wave, 79-68, in a Conference-USA tilt at Hofheinz Pavilion.
Nixon went 11-for-11 from the foul line in the win for Houston (12-11, 4-6 C- USA), which also got 15 points and 11 rebounds from Maurice McNeil. Adam Brown contributed 10 points for the Cougars, while Kendrick Washington finished with 10 points and seven boards in just 15 minutes of playing time.
Jordan Callahan scored 18 points to pace Tulane (12-12, 2-9) in the loss, while Kendall Timmons and Johnny Mayhane added 15 points apiece. David Booker got into the mix as well for the Green Wave, netting 10 points to go with a team-high six rebounds.
Houston made good on 54.8 percent from the field in the first half to earn a 41-31 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Green Wave was limited to just 37.1 percent from the floor while the Cougars knocked down 18-of-23 from the foul line.
The Cougars shot 51.9 percent from the field during the contest, helping the club to overcome a game-high 17 giveaways.
