Stone's Career Day Proves To Be Too Much For Owls

Houston, TX (Sports Network) – Julyan Stone scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Texas-El Paso Miners over the Rice Owls, 59-53, in a Conference USA tilt at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Jeremy Williams scored 12 points for the Miners (18-5, 6-2 C-USA), while Randy Culpepper chipped in 10 points.

The Owls (11-12, 3-6) were led by Connor Frizzelle’s 13 points, while Cory Pflieger added 12 points and Tamir Jackson finished with 11. Arsalan Kazemi added 10 boards.

Neither team could establish it early, as Texas-El Paso took a slim 27-26 lead into the break.

The Miners came alive in the second half, hitting 10-of-19 shots over the final 20 minutes to earn the win.

Rice shot just 33.3 percent from the field in the loss.
