Houston Cougar head swimming coach Mark Taylor passed away from an apparent heart attack on Friday night, according to the UH athletics facebook page.
↵Taylor was the head coach at Houston for nine years. In the past, he had also worked as an assistant at Arizona State, and had coached the national teams of Denmark and Iceland. He was the 2009 Conference USA coach of the year after leading Houston to a 17th place finish in the NCAA championships, continuing his streak of leading his school to a top 30 finish every year he was at the helm.
↵Taylor, who was often seen around campus supporting other athletics programs, is survived by his wife Lorraine, and their two sons. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
↵Mark Taylor was 50 years old.
