Astros Split Squad: Happ Earns Win Against Detroit; Jiovanni Mier's 9th Inning Error Leads To 5-Run Comeback For Yankees

Lakeland, FL (Sports Network) - Oswaldo Navarro hit a three-run homer as part of a four-run top of the eighth, lifting the Houston Astros to a 6-3 win over the Detroit Tigers in Grapefruit League action.

Angel Sanchez chased in a run with a single in the eighth, while Hunter Pence also had a run-scoring base hit and tripled in three at-bats. J.A. Happ started and earned the win for tossing two innings of one-hit ball with a strikeout.

Clete Thomas, Scott Thorman and Alex Avila each had an RBI for the Tigers. Phil Coke was saddled with the loss after turning in a three-inning start. The veteran left-hander allowed one run on three hits and struck out four.

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Russell Martin capped a five-run ninth inning with a bases-loaded walk, as the New York Yankees rallied past the Houston Astros, 6-5, in Grapefruit League action.

Trailing 5-1, Martin reached on a fielding error to lead off the bottom of the ninth. Daniel Brewer and Austin Romine followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Jordan Parraz then reached base on shortstop Jiovanni Mier's throwing error, which allowed Martin to score.

Brewer crossed the plate on Douglas Arguello's wild pitch. Melky Mesa followed with a two-run single to make it 5-5. A single and two walks loaded the bases again with two outs. Martin came to the plate again and walked to bring home the winning run.

A.J. Burnett pitched two scoreless frames in the start for New York. Hector Noesi got the win after tossing a scoreless eighth and ninth.

Matt Downs and Brian Bogusevic both drove in two runs for the Astros, who also got an RBI from Jon Gaston.

Bud Norris went two innings in the start, giving up one run on one hit. Arguello allowed five runs -- two earned -- on four hits to take the loss.
