Passed Ball, Wild Pitch End Hopes For A Longhorn Sweep In Lawrence

After dominating the first two games of the series with Kansas by a combined score of 18-1, the Texas Longhorns were unable to complete the sweep, falling to the Jayhawks 4-2 in game three on Saturday.

Kansas got off to a fast start as shortstop Brandon Macias led the game off with a home run, but the fourth inning proved to be the difference. Longhorn starter Sam Stafford was pulled after giving up three runs, all earned, in 3.1 innings. Reliever Kendal Carrillo entered the game for Stafford, and promptly uncorked a wild pitch, allowing first baseman Zac Elgie to score from third. Following that, designated hitter Jake Marasco scored on a passed ball by Texas catcher Kevin Lusson.

Longhorn third baseman Erich Weiss went deep for the Longhorns in the fourth, and added an RBI single in the 5th, but other than that, Texas just wasn't able to get the bats going.

The (for now) seventh-ranked Longhorns return to Austin Tuesday to host Texas State at 6PM at Disch-Falk Field.
