Chuck Hayes, Perennially Undervalued?

In most underdog sports movies, there's a point where the underdog becomes the winner. That's why in the sequels, they always have to turn back the clock. It's no fun to watch a movie about the favorite winning it all.

Why do I bring this up? It appears Chuck Hayes is still undervalued, according to this list. In fact, he's one of the most undervalued players in the entire league. This is nothing new. Hayes has been underrated for his entire career now. He's constantly been bounced around the roster, lost in the shuffle, forgotten by people projecting Houston's lineup.

And all he's done is continue to produce when he's on the court. At this point, we have a good idea of what Hayes is like as a player. He's not an offensive force. But, his game is so good in the other areas that it more than makes up for it. He's on a decent contract that doesn't overpay him and he provides a ton of value to this team.

In fact, I'd have to say that has been Darryl Morey's biggest strength as a GM. He finds these players who's value outweighs their price tag. From Kyle Lowrey to Luis Scola and Hayes, this team is built frugally and efficiently. Nice to see some confirmation of that from time to time.
