Texans Re-Sign Back-Up QB Matt Leinart

After a night of weighing his options, quarterback Matt Leinart has made his decision to avoid a clogged depth chart in Seattle and return to the Houston Texansper the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain

The details of the deal have not been released at this time, but this move almost ensures that Leinart will be the primary back-up to Matt Schaub and Dan Orlovsky will get his walking papers on Thursday when teams are allowed to release players. Rookie T.J. Yates will likely slide into the third quarterback role.

Yesterday, rumors had placed Leinart in Seattle to reunite with former USC coach Pete Carroll, but the Seahawks signed Tavaris Jackson to a two-year deal first.

Gary Kubiak’s done nothing but compliment Leinart during his time in Houston while Orlovsky has done nothing but struggle during his brief time on the field, usually in preseason.
