40 straight victories at home? The Texas A&M men's tennis team can boast that mark after a weekend victory over Mississippi State. To prove it wasn't just a case of poor scheduling, the Aggies beat a No. 14 Bulldog team that was very good.
↵Tennis doesn't get a lot of press in the college sports scene. It sits with soccer, softball and many other sports on the second tier. They're great matches to attend and a lot of fun to root for, but it's a non-revenue sport.
↵Which is a shame. I just listened to multiple days of Pardon The Interruption lamenting the lack of superstar American tennis players. There are a number of quite good players in college, but they don't translate to the pro circuit. Basically, if a player is going to college, it's because they are not good enough to go pro, since tennis players usually peak in their early 20's.
↵Of course, that's a gross generalization, but tennis is just a different sport. It's a shame there is no American star, but the Aggie men are showing there can still be success on the college level. At least, they can prove that success at home.
