College Football Rankings, Week 8: Texas Tech jumps to No. 20 in coaches' poll

After a 49-14 win over then-No. 4 West Virginia, Texas Tech moved into the USA Today Coaches' Poll for the first time this season.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders dismantled then-No. 4 West Virginia, 49-14, Saturday, and on Sunday voters in the USA Today Coaches' Poll rewarded them. Tech jumped to No. 20 in the latest edition of the poll.

The Red Raiders rolled up 676 yards of offense against West Virginia, and Tech's defense held the Mountaineers to 38 points below their previous average per game. Quarterback Seth Doege had a remarkable game, completing 32 of 42 passes for 499 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. The Mountaineers dropped to No. 15 after the loss.

LSU recovered from its loss at Florida with a 23-21 win over South Carolina. The Tigers moved up from No. 8 to No. 6, while the Gamecocks slipped from No. 3 to No. 8. Texas A&M escaped Shreveport, La., with a 59-57 win over Louisiana Tech and moved up from No. 21 to No. 19. TCU rejoined the poll at No. 21 after a 49-21 win over Baylor.

The Texas Longhorns took the biggest hit in the poll, dropping out from No. 15 after an embarrassing 63-21 loss to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. The Sooners moved up from No. 10 to No. 7
