The FCS football playoffs will begin on Nov. 24, but Sam Houston State will get to wait until the second round to play their first game after earning a first round bye. The Bearkats finished the season with an 8-3 record after closing out the year with a 47-28 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies which earned them a bye into the second round, where they will play Cal Poly on Dec. 1.
The four first-round match-ups on Nov. 24 will feature South Dakota State hosting Eastern Illinois, Bethune-Cookman hosting Coastal Carolina, Stony Brook hosting Villanova and Wagner hosting Colgate. The winners of those games will then go on to face the No. 3 seeded teams in the second round.
Last season, the Bearkats went undefeated in the regular season and through the playoffs before losing in the FCS Championship game to North Dakota State.
