After starting off the season with a 1-5 record, the Rice Owls have won two of their last three, giving them a 3-6 record heading into Saturday's game at the Tulane Green Wave. Tulane, also winners of two of its last three games, is looking to upset Rice on homecoming.
Tulane (2-6, 2-2 C-USA) is sits at No. 4 in Conference USA's West division, while Rice (3-6, 1-4) is in fifth place.
Even with the poor record, Rice has a chance to become bowl eligible if the Owls win their remaining games in November. The momentum may be on their side, as they have won their last two games by a combined score of 78-31. Rice nearly upset Conference USA leader Tulsa, losing by a score of 28-24.
The two teams have met 34 total times, and Rice leads the series with an 18-15-1 record, having won the last two meetings. Rice, averaging 29.2 points per game, compared to Tulane's 18.4, is favored by four points on the road.
