NBA Standings 2012: Houston Holding Onto No. 8 Spot

The Western Conference playoff race is extremely tight with the No. 4 spot to the No. 9 spot separated by 1.5 games, so each and every game the rest of the way is huge for all teams. The Rockets are currently tied for the No. 8 spot with the Nuggets but could easily move up a few spots if they go on a short winning streak.

Even though the Rockets are tied with the Nuggets, the No. 8 spot belongs to the Rockets due to tiebreakers. Had the Rockets defeated the Mavericks on Saturday night they would be at the No. 6 spot, so that is how close the Western Conference playoff race is.
