At first it seems slightly odd that Houston Texans quarterback T.J. Yates and bestselling author of ALL of your aunt's favorite books, Nicholas Sparks, were hanging out over the weekend. Then after the explanation, it's uh, still a little odd:
Thanks to @SparksNicholas for a great weekend and amazing hospitality!
— T.J. Yates (@TJ_Yates) April 22, 2012
Yates was apparently among a score of celebrities and athletes - Drew Brees and once-Texan Matt Leinart included, as well as a thick layer of C-grade cable television hosts ("personalities," sorry) that gathered for a weekend in New Bern, North Carolina, for golf tournaments, a movie premiere for a terrible movie, and autograph sessions costing $250 a person. The proceeds of the event - "The Nicholas Sparks Celebrity Family Weekend" - went to The Nicholas Sparks Foundation, which we're sure is just as noble as Nicholas Sparks hosting a celebrity fan event in North Carolina for no other purpose than to apparently fete Nicholas Sparks.
