Sawgrass had its fair share of victims in the first round of The Players Championship on Thursday.
However, Ian Poulter and Martin Laird were not part of them, shooting 7-under 65 after Day 1 to tie atop the leaderboard. Poulter birdied four straight holes (9-12) at one point and birdied all four par 5s. He also had nine straight one-putt greens from holes No. 9 to No. 17.
Martin didn't bogey a hole while making seven birdies. He also birdied each par 5.
Behind Poulter and Laird are three Americans: Blake Adams (-6), Kevin Na (-5) and Ben Crane (-5). Eleven players are at 4-under.
Of course, everyone wants to know how Tigers Woods did. Well, he bogeyed the first hole and was never under par on the day finishing with a 2-over 74 and is in danger is missing another cut.
