This isn't just any weekend Southland Conference series, but regular season championship could be on the line when first-place Sam Houston State hosts Southeastern Louisiana today in the start of a match-up featuring the league's top teams.
For the Sam Houston, (20-7 SLC), a strong finish to the season, like say a sweep against the Lions, results in the first conference title since 1989, before most of the current Bearkat players and any of their phenomenal freshmen were born.
The second-place Lions (17-10 SLC) , who come to Don Sanders Stadium this weekend having won four of their last five conference games are what stands in the way of the Bearkats. Also, with Sam Houston losing three out of their last six conference games, Southeastern Louisiana is just three games, or a weekend series sweep away from tying for the lead in the conference standings.
