Rice Vs. UAB Baseball: The Owls Secure First Place In C-USA, Take Two From Blazers

The Rice Owls were able to take two from the UAB Blazers on Saturday as weather postponed the series opener on Friday night, causing the doubleheader on Saturday.

Rice's 12-2 victory early in the afternoon helped get the bats rolling for the Owls. Rice slugged out 14 hits versus UAB in game one. In game two, Rice knocked out an additional 15 hits in an 8-6 victory on Saturday evening at Reckling Park. That adds up to a two game total of 29-of-68 for the day with eight doubles, two home runs and 20 runs scored. Some words from Ford Stainback:

"I was really seeing the ball well the past two games. That's what you want as a hitter. Leading off is probably my most position to hit in, and where I'm most comfortable." -- Shortstop Ford Stainback

Rice's record now stands at 36-13 overall and 15-5 in C-USA play. The Owls are now alone in first place of the confernece standings. Sunday's game vs. UAB will serve as Rice's final home game of the regular season.
