After Thursday's game was postponed due to rain, LSU and South Carolina were scheduled to play a doubleheader on Friday. The No. 9 Tigers took down the No. 2 Gamecocks 5-2 in the first game at Carolina Stadium.
Righty Kevin Gausman threw a complete game for LSU, allowing just five hits while striking out six. He moved his record on the season to an impressive 9-1.
For his part, Michael Roth lasted eight innings in the start for South Carolina, giving up three earned runs on 10 hits. But in the ninth, the Tigers scored two runs on Patrick Sullivan to get some breathing room. The loss put Roth at 5-1 on the season.
LSU was led at the plate by Jordy Snikeris, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Mason Katz went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. For South Carolina, Jordan Pankake went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
