The Houston Astros could still beat the Colorado Rockies in the first of their doubleheader Memorial Day matchup, but it was nothing like a holiday for Stros ace Wandy Rodriguez, who gave up seven runs on 10 hits in five innings pitched, including a five-run first inning.
Four of the runs scored on Rodriguez were earned.
That first inning was just a terrible way to get started. Chris Johnson had an error at third base that put the first base-runner on, then Jordan Pacheco scored him with a triple deep to field. Pacheco scored on a wild pitch from Wandy.
This performance can be chalked up to the fact that when it rains, it pours. Still, Astros fans have to be encouraged in the fact that Wandy could come out and pitch such a bad game, and the team still have a chance to win because the bats are there.
The game is tied at 7 in the top of the 7th inning.
