Sam Houston State baseball hasn't been this good in a long time, with the Bearkats on top of the Southland Conference as winners of eight league series this season. Sam Houston heads up Interstate 45 for a weekend battle with Texas-Arlington beginning Friday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Sam Houston (31-12, 19-5) is on a mission for its first Southland Conference regular season baseball championship since 1989. The Mavericks (27-19, 14-10) are in third place in the league standings.
Caleb Smith (6-3), Justin Jackson (7-3) and Michael Oros (6-1) will be the starting pitchers for the Bearkats over the weekend. Smith is coming in with the third lowest ERA in the league (2.15).
The Mavericks starting pitchers will be Friday: Lance Day (9-1, 3.11 ERA); Saturday: Adam Westbrook (0-3, 2.96 ERA); Sunday: Michael Oberto (0-1, 1.11 ERA).
