The Sam Houston State baseball team holds a 2-0 lead over Texas-Arlington in the top of the seventh inning at Clay Gould Ballpark, but action has been halted for a while due to a rain delay.
There were six scoreless innings between these two teams before Bearkats freshmen first baseman Ryan O'Hearn and catcher Shea Pierce plated in an RBI apiece in the seventh inning. Pierce, the son of Sam Houston State skipper David Pierce, is filling in at catcher for the injured Anthony Azar and John Hale.
Through six innings, Bearkat pitcher Caleb Smith had given up only two hits stuck out three. Sam Houston has been able to get off seven hits on Mavericks pitcher Lance Day.
Sam Houston and UTA are two of the top baseball teams in the Southland Conference, with the Bearkats leading the way with a 19-5 SLC record, while the Mavericks hold a 14-10 league record going into Friday night's action.
