Houston Vs. Rice Baseball: Owls Force Extra Innings For 4-3 Comeback Win

The Rice Owls topped the Houston Cougars on Saturday, 4-3, on a Jeremy Rathjen sac fly in the tenth inning. The Owls were down 2-1 until the ninth inning, but were able to force another inning on a Michael Fuda bunt.

J.T. Chargrois started on the mound for the Owls, but went just 2.1 innings, giving up three hits and a earned run. Taylor Wall pitched very well in relief, earning zero runs in 4.1 innings and striking out three. Jordan Lewis went eight innings for the Cougars, and gave up just three hits and two runs, neither of which were earned.

Houston scored in the fourth inning, and held a 1-0 lead until the eighth when they went up 2-0 when Price Jacobs was hit by a pitch, walking in a run. Rice's bats finally got going after that, however. Houston went up 3-2 in the tenth on a Jake Runte single, but the Owls were able to take their only lead of the game for the win on their next turn at the plate.

Game 3 of their weekend series will be played tomorrow, Sunday, at 1:00 p.m. CT.
